[TTT #001] This should be your very first lens – 27 October 2022
š” In the Two Tip Thursday series I share 2 photography tips regarding social media, business, practical suggestions, mindset and everything you need to become a prošø
TIP #1
What is the best way to start getting paid photography jobs?
There are a few ways to do so, but I found that the most effective one is simply posting a good amount of high-quality content online relative to the niche you want to work in.
Whenever you showcase your high-quality work online, people will naturally feel attracted to what you do; hence, they’ll ask you to create content for them.
At the beginning of my career, while working as a PT in a gym, I used to post cinematic hiking videos on Facebook. Just for fun.
A couple of friends kept seeing my high-quality videos online and they asked if I could help them shoot their projects.
I did the first two videos for free, then started charging 50$, then 100$, then 500$ and now I just closed a 20k project.
TIP #2
This should be your very first lens: 24-70mm (or similar).
You won’t want anything else. Ever.
It’s just the most versatile of them all. You can shoot anything with it, literally.
And if you’re just starting, you should try all types of photography. Hence, get a 24-70 or similar.
I’m now lucky enough to have a bunch of extra lenses and I try to use only prime ones if I can (they are generally sharper and with a lower f-stop).
But if I had to pick one and throw away all the others…I would choose to keep the 24-70 (I have a 28-75mm f2.8 by Tamron).
See you next Thursday, Ciao!
